as seen, most big companies see SUVs as the next upgrade. If auto companies start giving alternate e nergy vehicles as upgrades, there would be more people buying those. dignity is taken very seriously in our country, unfortunately. :( and those who drive it are auto makers.

agree and am aware. consumer awareness would help, but i'd put the bigger share of responsibility o n legislation. one is not surprised that there's lack of political will. one is not surprised there 's an car-maker's lobby at work. i'm not surprised at the funds being pumped into roads. policy i n india is warped. the entire political economy and development model in india is warped. this is on e of its several warps. as a consumer i'd be happy to drive a hybrid if there were serious tax cuts
