sowing death

a grave crisis kept carefully under wraps for a decade. farmers of five states - maharashtra, karnataka, andhra pradesh, madhya pradesh and chhattisgarh - have been silently killing themselves. according to national crime records bureau (ncrb) during 1997-2007, 1,82,936 farmers committed suicide. four pm's took oath during that period and each of them turned a deaf ear towards them.

the numbers are telling of state slumber through consecutive governments. wish the animation was lit
tle longer and highlighted a few reasons as discussed by Shriya Mohan's piece in Tehelka. worthwhil
e attempt, nonetheless.

really shocking.. there is a great divide.. on one hand big entrepreneurs are loaded with loans..but
on the other, these small but important entrepreneurs are totally neglected.

this is most shocking to me considering the fact that i was planning on becoming a farmer. i will so
meday, this should concern us all since without farmers there is going to be a huge food crisis.
